Basil

Chives

A hardy edible perennial. Onion chives (Allium schoenoprasum) have round leaves with pink or purple flowers in spring through early summer. Garlic chives (Allium tuberosum) are flat leaved with white flowers in late summer.

Cilantro/Coriander

Cool season annual. Cilantro is the plant and coriander is the seed. Blossoms are attractive to bees and other beneficial insects.

Coneflower

A bright flowering perennial herb with dark pink flowers on long stems, blooming in early to mid-summer. Known as purple coneflower, but can also be found in a white-flowering variety.  This is a beautiful, easy to grow native with medicinal benefits. Attracts butterflies. Will reseed.

Curry Leaf Tree

A tropical plant with aromatic leaves that add a distinctly fragrant flavor, common in south Indian cuisine though not related to curry powder. In its native Asian setting it grows as a shrub or small tree. In North Texas, it is best grown as a container plant where it can overwinter in a protected spot.

Fennel, Bronze

A tender perennial herb with feathery, bronze foliage and yellow clusters of flowers followed by aromatic seeds. Anise-like flavor. Attracts beneficial insects to the garden; host plant for Swallowtail butterflies.

Goldenrod

A tall, perennial herb that forms large clumps. Beautiful, spikes of yellow flowers bloom in late summer and fall. Attracts a variety of beneficial insects, including monarch butterflies.

Japanese Mugwort

Also known as Yomogi and kui hao. A flavorful, hardy herb with green, fuzzy, finely cut leaves. Thrives in most climates and is traditionally used in eastern medicine. A cold-hardy substitute to white sage for smudging. Does well in pots.

Marjoram, Sweet

Sweet marjoram is a Mediterranean tender, culinary herb with disinfectant and preserving qualities. Flavor is milder than closely related oregano. Grow as a border plant or groundcover. Seed heads provide winter feed for birds and flowers attract butterflies and bees.

Mexican Mint Marigold

A compact perennial with yellow-gold flowers in summer through late fall, peaking in fall. Attracts butterflies. Also known as Texas tarragon.
